Kenyans are constantly being duped by their government and they seem to fall for it every time. The Kenyan Members of Parliament called in an emergency session, at tax payer expense, to lure the jubilee base into believing that they are working hard to withdraw Kenya from the ICC but, the reality of the matter is Kenya can only withdraw from the ICC by formal notification to the United Nations Secretary-General by the Executive government, not parliament.
Kenyans are so easily influenced by misinformation and the Kenyan Media doesn’t do a good job at correcting any of these misconceptions. The Rome Statute says a “state party” may withdraw with written notification to the U.N.’s secretary-general; withdrawal takes effect one year later. The truth is Parliament has voted to withdraw before but, the executive branch took no action. What Kenyans witnessed was a voice vote that has no effect on Kenya’s ICC membership.
This meeting was about something more that an ICC withdrawal and it up to the Kenyan people to decide if they want to keep liars as Members of their Parliament or gather the signatures required to eliminate ineffective leadership.
